Counting Down to Malaysia

The weeks really fly by. This was a really hectic week and I’m so damn tired… or at least I was before I had that freezing cold shower. Now I awake. Really awake. It’s been a week since I last wrote and this has simply been because I have been too busy to. I have had credit card hassles, copious amounts of essay to write and private lessons to get up for. Usually I wake, rush to the shower and rush to school to get in late at 1pm. But these days I actually have to use my alarm (which I love btw… more on this later) to set a reasonable time to get up. That also means forcing myself to sleep earlier. Strange, this still means 3 in the morning.

So I mentioned my alarm clock, well this is so cool. It’s on my computer and it wakes me up with mp3s. I choose my playlist before I go to sleep or put it on random and sure enough at the right time it comes on pumping all my favorite tunes. So cool. It sure beats the beep!beep!beep! of the alarm clock next to my bed. I don’t respect the beeps it gives and as a result just turn it off and turn over.

It is precicely one week until I go to Malaysia and I am seriously pumped. This is going to be so much fun. Just to be in the same country as Jelita for the first time in 5 months. She’s told me so much about everything there over the past 2 and a half years that I am so dying to see it its not funny. Plus of course, seeing her again is going to be just perfect. I have to prepare my wardrobe to handle the hot weather. Until now, I have been buying cool winter clothes here, I think I have bought more clothes here in the past 2 months than I have bought in the past 2 years. But when it comes to handling heat I am a little short. So I’ll have to go and do some hunting today.

Last night I went again to the basement of rock. It was quite fun, they had a new dj who was mixing it up with some modern stuff as well. It was pretty cool. Also the bathroom has had a major upgrade since I was last there. They installed a light bulb. Now you can see all of the rats while you pee. Actually it’s not that bad. Because the bar is a basement and because the toilets are upstairs from the bar, it is actually on ground level. And for some reason I could see a lady peeling potatoes down the corridor a little bit. And beyond that people walking on the street. It was very communal, very atmospheric. Anyway.. I’m less inclined to want to see the dawn again so I didn’t stay too long. Came home, slept and woke up and a reasonable hour. So it’s going well so far.

Also last night after work, me and Keith went out with our co-teacher, a Korean guy. He is older and he wears a suit and until now we hadn’t really been friendly. But we thought we’d break the ice and ask him out. He came and we had a good time chatting. He’s a really nice guy. I figured that he probably just didn’t think himself the same type of person as us two but its really nice to be able to get along well with your co-workers I think and so it turned out well. While we were eating (on the street) we were approached by all manner of beggars and even a nice lady who gave us all candy and told us to come to her house sometime. She even included directions.. people in Korea are so friendly!

And as my internet is down I guess there’s nothing left for me to do but go do some shopping. I bid you adieu.

Brown Eyes on a Bus

Today was a slightly more productive day. I sorted some things out with the Director and basically managed to put it to her that like it or not, I’m taking the week off and we can only go from there. Actually, I didn’t put it like that, I called someone else to do it for me. And that is the key: if you must give bad news, get someone else to deliver it. I had the recruiter tell her that I was adamant about it and that was that. So mission accomplished. Anyway, it was a pretty good day.

I have to put it to Jay-Z. I never gave him the full credit he deserves, but he is a damn good rapper. I really like his new album and his raps are really lyrical but at the same time really descriptive, telling a story about his life or other shit and not just smart-ass one-liners like other raps tend to lead with. Of course, I say this because one of his songs has been stuck in my head ALL DAMN DAY.

I have a chance to act in a TV show tomorrow so I should get an early night and get some beauty sleep. But I promised to help J with her essay and I have to do some typing. It’s ok, I’m only supposed to be an extra so it’s not like a demanding role or anything. I want to use this to go other places. I wasn’t impressed when I saw the show the first time, it was really lame and the actors looked like they had stepped out of some eastern european soap opera. But a lot of Koreans watch it so that kind of exposure can’t be bad.

Better continue typing. I took a picture today of a little girl I saw on the bus. She couldn’t take her eyes off me for some reason, the whole time I was there she just stared at me with these big brown eyes. Soooo cute.

Good For Your Health

Think I am getting a cold. I woke up with that “oh my god do I have to” attitude and this is always a bad sign. As usual, had a song stuck in my head for no good reason. I have not heard it for at least a year and have no idea what it was doing prancing around in my head at 10am. I had to download it of course and play it until it relinquished it’s grip on my consciousness.

As I write, I am sneezing and blowing my nose. Really bad sign. Need to sleep and drink some more of those funny bottles that they sell in the stores here. I am not sure what is in them, but they taste bad so logically must be good for you. Here, when someone says “for your health” assume that it tastes repulsive. There are tiny little brown bottles sold here which contain a couple of mouthfuls of some icky liquid. Some of them are Ginseng, some are vitamin drinks and others are just not worth asking about.

I came up with an idea for an apocalyptic film today. It goes like this: there is a group of physicists who discover a way to modify the properties of molecules to make them behave in different ways. The accidental discovery of this new field leads to a huge chain-reaction among all molecules on Earth, essentially freezing the whole planet. Everyone is chryogenically frozen with the exception of the original group of scientists, who managed to stop it from hitting their lab (some counter-freeze thingy). So they have to find a way to un-freeze everything through an equally cool chain-reaction. Everyone would be back to normal and life would be cool again. Pretty dumb huh? But wait, there’s more! So they are working on this problem and then suddenly they realize that they can use this new technology to send a signal out to space. It is meant to reach the space station orbiting the Earth. But instead, it is sent out into the vastness of space. Suddenly, there is a reply. It is the Galactic Federation welcoming them to the Federation. Engineers are on their way to reverse the freeze and Diplomats will greet their world leaders to fill them in on Galactic history.

Well, now that I’ve got that stupid story idea off my chest I think I can go sleep now.
